My Rules

So, the MN Product Camp happening this weekend has kept me a bit more than occupied. Unfortunately this means I haven’t been able to post articles that have formed in my mind, but not found their way to the keyboard.

So, I simply updated my “rules” page. This is a tab on my site here where I will list the rules I believe are worth following for product managers and product marketers. The rules are not necessarily mine – and I will attribute when I quote directly. But, they are foundational in nature.

If you have any rules that feel should be included, please comment. The list is intended to grow with the product professional community.

Looking in from the outside, there are building blocks we all should master before tackling the harder stuff up the ladder. Only then, when we remember the rules of the game, can we achieve and succeed.

One Response to “My Rules”

  1. Cool idea :)

One of my rules is, Remember To Show Appreciation. This applies to team members, direct reports, partners, and customers. It’s a PM rule that’s easy to overlook or take for granted.

Product Managers create and maintain products through other people. This requires the cooperation and support of many different individuals, inside and outside the company.

When you show appreciation to others for their help, and give help to others, you’re more likely to receive their assistance the next time you need it.
