Some of My Favorite Twitter 101 Resources

logo

Here you go…here are some of my favorite resources on Twitter that help me when I started, and remind me when I get lost/confused. I’ve limited it to only a few of the best, in my opinion, but they contain more links for you to follow:

  • Good introduction and Twitter FAQs, NOT written by Twitter:

http://www.web-strategist.com/blog/2009/03/11/ask-jeremiah-comprehensive-faq-guide-to-twitter/

  • CIO Magazine wrote a good article on getting started on twitter for businesspeople:

http://www.cio.com/article/479010/Twitter_How_to_Get_Started_Guide_for_Business_People (the Forrester analyst in the article, Jeremiah Owyang is the guru of all social media, in my opinion and recommends this article to all)

  • What are Hashtags and why do I care about them?

http://twitter.pbworks.com/Hashtags (there is a great list of resources at the bottom – for product management, #prodmgmt is the hashtag that is the most active)

  • Who are some good product management people already playing on Twitter?

http://www.cindyalvarez.com/learning/product-managers-on-twitter (Great list!)

http://www.webproductblog.com/web-product-management/50-product-managers-in-twitter-that-are-worth-a-follow/ (this is a good – and growing – list of product management people active on Twitter; also contains a few really good links on bottom about how to use Twitter)

  • Great article about why product management/productmarketing people should be on Twitter (with more resource links.)

http://www.webproductblog.com/web-product-management/the-7-reasons-why-good-product-managers-must-be-on-twitter/

  • I recommend using a desktop client – it helps organize all your stuff in a much more usable fashion.

A good list can be found here: http://mashable.com/2009/02/07/twitter-clients/ (from my observation, most of the #prodmgmt people on Twitter are using TweetDeck)

I think this should be enough to get you started. And, if not, or if you have any other questions, I’m available to help you get to the next step. See you online! (You are going to follow me @jidoctor, right?)
